Pray Always

October 30, 2017

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

In this passage, we are told to pray always. This means that throughout the course of the day, over and over again, we are to lift our hearts to God, bringing before Him the issues we’re facing. John Wesley described the man who fulfills the injunction to “pray without ceasing”:

His heart is ever lifted up to God at all times and in all places. In this, he is never hindered, much less interrupted by any person or thing. In retirement or company, leisure, business, or conversation his heart is ever with the Lord. Whether he lie down or rise up, God is in all his thoughts. He walks with God continually having the loving eye of his mind still fixed upon Him and everywhere seeing Him that is invisible.

This is what Paul means when he says to pray always.
