The Resurrection of Jesus: Changed Lives

August 31, 2020

The final proof that convinces me of Jesus’ resurrection is the tens of millions of lives that have been transformed throughout history by encountering the resurrected Christ. There is no explanation for this transformation apart from Jesus being alive.

Some might argue that Christianity isn’t the only religion that produces change in people’s lives, and to some extent, that is true. No doubt other religions can effect change, but the changes are primarily external, dealing with behavioral issues. The difference between Christianity and all other religions is that Christ doesn’t merely take bad people and make them better, He takes wicked people and makes them holy. But above even that, He takes people who are self-righteous, self-satisfied, and even devoutly religious, and convinces them that they are actually sinners hopelessly lost and in desperate need of a Savior! That’s powerfully convincing to me!

C.S. Lewis

Something else I find quite interesting is that many have become Christians when they weren’t even looking to. They had no interest in the subject whatsoever, and yet were compelled to become Christians simply because the reality of the message was so overwhelming that they couldn’t resist. To me, that is absolutely amazing. A case in point is the great scholar C. S. Lewis. Compelled by the evidence to do the very thing he’d hoped never to do, he bowed his knee in submission to the Lord Jesus Christ and became a Christian. He was, in his own words, “the most dejected and reluctant convert in all of England.” (Lewis, C.S. Surprised by Joy)

How do you explain these things? You don’t apart from the resurrection! The only reasonable conclusion is that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, is alive today, and is still radically changing the lives of those who put their faith in Him.

The Beauty and Majesty of Jesus

Perhaps as you’ve read through these weekly devotions, you too have begun to see the beauty and majesty of this extraordinary life—a life unlike any other, for it was nothing less than the life of God in human flesh. Jesus has no like or equal because He alone is the God-Man. And being both God and Man, He is uniquely qualified to reconcile us to God. He has done His part by leaving heaven and coming to earth, by living a perfect life, by dying for our sins, and by rising from the dead. What must we do? It’s real simple, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).

If you would like to receive Christ as your Lord and Savior, pray this prayer from your heart:

Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that You died for my sins, and that You rose again from the dead. I ask You to forgive my sins and take charge of my life. Help me to live for You from this day forward. Amen.
