Boots of Peace

September 4, 2017

We are to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. The Roman soldier wore a studded sandal in battle that gave him security and helped him stand immovable in the conflict. Those shoes gave him confidence. Likewise, the peace of God gives us security and confidence in battle. It is the peace of God that protects us from discouragement and despair.

Ready to Share the Gospel

But having our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace also speaks of a readiness to share the gospel. As we’re out and about in our daily lives—whether at work, out in the community, or on vacation, wherever we go as God’s people—we need to be prepared to share the gospel! Do you know the gospel? Are you able to communicate it? Do you see how important it is to learn God’s Word, not only for your own benefit, but for the benefit of others as well? The apostle Peter said something similar to what Paul is saying here. He said:

Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you. 1 Peter 3:15
