The Prophetic Birth of Christ

May 11, 2020

One other unique aspect of the birth of Christ that has already been alluded to is that His birth was predicted centuries before it occurred. There is no one else in history whose birth was foretold to that extent.

There were a few other people in the biblical record whose births were announced before their conception, but these were exceptional. Even in such cases, there hadn’t been a series of predictions dating back to the dawn of time, as in the case of Jesus. Let me give two examples, one from Isaiah the prophet and one from the prophet Micah, that date back about 700 years before Christ.

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

But you, Bethlehem, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting. Micah 5:2

Set Apart

So the prophecies concerning Jesus’ coming also set Him apart from every other person.

In speaking with Muslims, I have often asked why Muhammad’s birth was not prophesied in advance if he was the last and greatest of the prophets as they claim. Why don’t we have centuries of expectation that Muhammad would come into the world as we do with Jesus? And if we have numerous prophecies predicting the birth of Jesus, but we don’t have any about Muhammad, how could it be that God would tell us in advance about an inferior prophet and leave us completely in the dark about this supposed superior prophet? This comparison shows the fallacy of the position that Muhammad is superior to Jesus.

No Equal

Whether it’s through the virgin birth or the fact that His coming was prophesied since the beginning of human history, we see that Jesus, in regard to His coming into the world, clearly has no like or equal.
