I am the way, the truth, and the life. John 14:6
Some years ago, I was traveling by train from London to Oxford and sat next to a man who I spent the journey talking with. In our conversation, we came around to discussing the subject of truth. He insisted there was no such thing as absolute truth and I obviously insisted there was. After going round and round, I finally said to him, “You, a man in your thirties with limited knowledge and limited life experience, are telling me there is no such thing as truth. Jesus Christ said, ‘I am the truth.’ I’ll bet on His Word over yours.” The greatest Man who ever lived, the Man who performed the greatest deeds known to man, the Man who spoke the greatest words every spoken, said, “I am the truth.” Is there any valid reason to doubt what He said was true? I think not!
When Jesus said He was the truth, He was referring to being the truth about God and also about man. He is the truth about man in that He was the embodiment of what man was created to be. The truth about man is that he was created to love, worship, and glorify his Creator. Jesus did exactly that, and in the process, He showed us what man was intended to be. He is the truth about God in that He is the visible manifestation of the invisible God.
Jesus Is the Truth
The biblical writers put it this way:
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:15
Who (Jesus) being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power. Hebrews 1:3
Are you a seeker of truth? Do you want to know the truth about man’s existence and purpose? Do you want to know the truth about yourself? Do you want to know the truth about God? Look to Jesus. He is the truth!
