Christ, the Church and the Mentally Ill
The heartbreaking news of the suicide of Rick and Kay Warren's son Matthew has been followed by, among other things, a public discussion of mental illness. Apparently, Matthew's death was the end of a long battle with bipolar disorder. But before I talk about mental illness, I want to say that we (our family and our church family) are grieving with the Warrens, praying that the Father of mercies and God of all comfort will comfort them in this time of deep, emotional grief.
